“Star Homework”
In order to alleviate the stress that homework causes some families I have developed our new homework policy. We call it Star Homework. Each week students will get a Star Homework bookmark which they will glue into their reading response journal. They will also glue in the reading passage for the week. Their reading journal needs to come to school each day with their agenda.
•. Each night your child must read for a minimum of 20 minutes (I try to encourage 30 or more). I am flexible about this- if you are very busy one night they can add extra time other nights or do some of it over the weekend.
•. Each night they must complete their Reading Response Homework in their Reading notebook which should come back and forth to school each day.
•. Each night your child can choose to do one or more of the following activities for homework-
1. Work on Xtra Math- see website directions attached
2. Practice spelling words
3. Practice math facts with flash cards
Circle the stars on the homework bookmark that correspond to the homework completed for each night. Parents need to sign the bookmark at the end of the week.
Each day we will count the number of stars the class earns doing homework and record that number. The goal each week will be to see if we can top our number of stars from the previous week. If we do we will earn a special prize!
